It is international Women’s Month and we want to celebrate our women in business! This month we decided to highlight a few of our woman-owned businesses.
Carolina Youth Development Center
Founded in 1790, the Carolina Youth Development Center has a long history in the Lowcountry. They are a descendant of not only the first orphan house in Charleston but the first public-funded orphanage in the united states. Today their mission is what it has always been, to cultivate thriving children and families. Their programs reach over 900 children, youth, and their families annually. They care for young individuals who are victims of physical and sexual abuse, neglect, and abandonment. As well as provide resources to support families in the area who are at risk of having their children removed from their homes. Carolina Youth Development Center is a 501(c)(3) organization and the CEO of CYDC is Beverly Hardin.
Charcuterie Happy Board
Tanya Waring Hearn is the owner of Charcuterie Happy Board. She specializes in charcuterie experiences, curating boards, platters, and more for meetings and special events. Tanya found CHB in October of 2021 and turned her hobby into a small business. Charcuterie Happy Board is the perfect complement for people to not only have food but memories as well at social events, holidays, family gatherings, business meetings, and other special events. Because of Tanya’s networking, Charcuterie Happy Board is continuously growing in popularity and business. Charcuterie Happy Board has been featured in the Charleston City Paper and SC Voyager. Just recently Tanya launched a private workshop on how to create your charcuterie board.
Jean’s Angels
Founded by Katrina Carpenter, Jean’s Angels has provided a variety of services in the tri-county area over the past 6 years. Jean’s Angels provide multiple services for individuals and families in need, such as counseling, tutoring, providing hot meals, assistance with school clothes and supplies, and Christmas gifts. They have multiple programs and annual events they do. Jean’s Angels make a quarterly visit to a nursing home and an annual Disney Scholor’s Trip for kids in the community. Jean’s Angels are hard at work and dedicated to helping to prevent homelessness, and help people escape it. Since they started, Jean’s Angels have provided over 5,000 meals in hot lunch served monthly, meals delivered to the home-bound, and emergency groceries given to families from their food pantry. As well as providing toiletry items, household goods, clothing, school supplies, book bags, and shoes to those in need. Lastly, Katrina and Jean’s Angels just recently celebrated the grand opening of their mobile van to provide grooming services to those in need.
