New year, new goals. It’s the simple theme as the time turns from one year to another, change. How has your goal setting gone so far? What did years past look like? Were you successful with goals that seemed smaller than you wanted? Have you shot for the moon, only to find yourself giving up a couple of days into the new year? Whatever the circumstances, we know we can help you take your goals to the maximum with these easy tips.
Set Your Own Goals
Has there ever been a time when the information for improvement in all areas was so readily available? Honestly, there hasn’t. These days you have more access to information than ever before, and that’s a double-edged sword. More isn’t always better. When it comes to goals we often find ourselves falling into the simple trap of letting other people set our goals. The problem with this is simple. They’re not your goals. Take a look at that list you made and make sure these goals are yours. It will only work if it’s personal.
Make it Important
While we’re on the topic of making it personal, you should make sure your goals are important to you. Sure, you can set a goal to eat one green thing at every meal. It’s a good piece, but is that really important to you? Probably not. Better health, lost weight, a higher quality of life, and many other things are important to you. That kale salad for lunch isn’t. Make sure that you are targeting your goals for things that are important. It will help you stick with it and not just push it to the side.
Aim Big, But Start Small
Let’s go back to that green vegetable for a moment. Like we said, it’s a little piece of a larger whole. When you set your goals make sure to take the time and break down the little pieces. Reverse engineer your goal to its smaller, bite-sized pieces and take aim at those. Those little steps will be easier to implement, but soon they will compound and that larger goal will be within your reach.
Track Your Progress
We talk a lot about writing down your goals. There’s something about writing your goals down that makes them more real and empowers you to achieve them. But we often forget the second part. You need to track your progress and write that down. This serves two purposes to help you maximize your goals. One, it will help you track your project, your stumbles, and adjust instead of give up. Two, it will duplicate that power of writing your goals down, giving you daily reminders and moments of power to keep pressing on to victory.
Take these steps. Commit, and take your goals to maximum.
